The client / the challenge
Universal Field Robots design fully-autonomous robots for industrial use, designed to make mining, agriculture and construction safer and more efficient. As a brand-new initiative by Intech Engineers, Universal Field Robots had no branding at all when they came to us (beyond having chosen a a name). They were completely unknown and seeking to stake their claim in an emerging field. They wanted to be instantly perceived as experts and hoped the right logo might draw attention to their designs as well.
Our strategic solution
After a brand workshop, we determined that in their field, the “wireless automation” aspect of their work was their major point of difference. We set out to design a logo and signage to help Universal Field Robots stand out, be heard and grow.

Signage PROJECT Logo + Wayfinding Signage
To create a unique, attention-grabbing-yet-scientific-looking logo, we began by playing with friendly, humanoid robot toys from the ‘60s.
Our initial concept was more humanoid, but in consultation with the client, we evolved our robo logo by dialling up its less cute, more practical features – such as caterpillar treads – to make it a good spokes…um…robot for the actual products it promotes.
The antenna—which extends up to replace the counter of the “R”—simultaneously reinforces the ‘60s sci-fi vibe while highlighting the client’s cutting-edge tech: wireless automation.
We designed a large sign for the side of the building that was known for housing the brand’s well established parent company – Intech Engineers. The sign both stakes the location as also belonging to Universal Field Robots and functions as wayfinding signage to help people find the office as well.
The sign is strategically positioned to be viewed by passersby in cars and on foot on busy Brunswick street to raise brand awareness.
Our robo logo was very popular and has subsequently been used by the brand across their website and clothing, in the field and even on the robots themselves.
